DIY Arhaus-Inspired Art for Under $100
I’ve been eyeing some of the beautiful abstract art pieces from Arhaus lately, but the price tags? Not so beautiful. Some of them run hundreds—or even thousands—of dollars. So instead of splurging, I decided to get creative and make my own!
This DIY wall art cost me under $100, and it turned out better than I imagined. Here’s how I did it—and how you can too.
What You’ll Need:
Large canvas (I used a 32x48 canvas from Hobby Lobby—watch for sales!)
Acrylic paint in various neutral or complementary tones
Paint brushes (a mix of sizes helps)
Natural loofah sponge (for added texture)
Optional: Leftover paint from other projects to tie the color into your space
How to Create Your Own DIY Designer Art
1. Start Loose and Free
There’s no right or wrong way to do this. I dipped my brush into multiple paint colors at once and started brushing in different directions—crisscross, circular, sweeping strokes. The idea is to be playful and organic with it.
2. Layer and Blend
As the paint begins to dry slightly, keep brushing over areas to create a soft, blended look. This will help the colors melt into one another instead of sitting on the surface in sharp streaks.
3. Add Depth and Color
I wanted my art to feel like it belonged in my home, so I added in some leftover paint from a piece of furniture I recently refinished. It brought in a subtle pop of color and made everything feel cohesive.
4. Texture is Everything
Once I was happy with the base, I used a natural loofah sponge to gently press and dab across the canvas. It gave the painting an earthy, almost fabric-like texture that made it feel much more high-end.
Final Thoughts
This was such a fun and easy project. It only took a couple of hours. Not only did I save a ton of money, but now I have a piece of art that feels meaningful—and totally custom to my space. If you’ve been wanting to elevate a room without breaking the bank, give this a try.
